Hedon Viewfinders Paull Maritime Project

HEDON VIEWFINDERS has been awarded a Hull Maritime Community Grant.

HEDON VIEWFINDERS has been awarded a Hull Maritime Community Grant. The photography club is to conduct a project to explore the maritime stories of Paull, gathering community anecdotes and photographs about the shrimp fishing industry, boat building, lighthouses and maritime history. The club is appealing for anyone with memories, mementoes, and photos to contact Janet Bucknall at the club at janetbucknall@hotmail.com.

The Hedon-based photography club aims to research and discover some of the fascinating local history of the village of Paull by collecting and recording the stories, and photographing some of the historical sites. These stories will be presented in an exhibition, booklet and via other presentation media.

Janet said:

“As a group, we are really excited about this project, and look forward to working with the local community to gather together the important maritime history and stories of Paull.”

After a record number of applications to the scheme, Hull Maritime Community Grants have awarded £10,000 to 10 community groups and residents in Hull and the East Riding to deliver projects spanning dance, historical research, storytelling, theatre, archaeology and more. The projects will come to life between May and September, with plenty of events and activities for the wider public to get involved in. Community Engagement Officer Emma Smith, who leads the scheme, said:

“We received a record number of applications, all of very high quality, from a wide range of people and groups across Hull and the East Riding. It has made the evaluating panel’s work even more difficult, but we’re excited to be supporting so many wonderful projects over the Spring and Summer of 2024.”

The latest round has awarded ten grants to the following groups: Hull Community Theatre, Elloughton-cum-Brough Playing Field Association, Groundwork Hull, BAMEEN, Hull Fostering Community Hub, Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society, Dance in Company, Pocklington and District Local History Group, Rewilding Youth and Hedon Viewfinders.
