Blurring and Freezing action with Shutter Speed… and other business!

Our practical session on the night is Shutter Speed – We want members to bring along kit and apparatus that we can use to demonstrate what’s involved in freezing motion and blurring motion.

THE NEXT HEDON VIEWFINDERS Meeting on Wednesday 17 2021 November comprises two items of business and a practical session:

  1. Our Christmas Party on Wed December 15th – we need to sort out the details of our Pirate-themed celebration (food, entertainment, awards, Secret Santa, etc).
  2. To sort out our plans for the Young Farmers Club joint event on the 24 November.

Our practical session on the night is Shutter Speed – We want members to bring along kit and apparatus that we can use to demonstrate what’s involved in freezing motion and blurring motion.

I hope to bring something exciting to do with a rubber ball! 🙂 And I can bring along a splash photography set-up (unless someone else volunteers to do so??)

Hedon Viewfinders Photography Club Meeting: Wednesday, 3 November 2021 7pm at the Haven Arms, Havenside, Hedon HU12 8HH.

Meeting: Wednesday, 3 November 2021 7pm at the Haven Arms, Havenside, Hedon HU12 8HH.

A bit of planning for our Programme of meetings for the next year 2022. The session will feed into and help Glenn design the Programme.

Camera and kit surgery: Have you got questions about your kit; settings, features, or photography techniques, etc. Whatever your issue, let us know in advance, and we’ll try to help via other members of the group and/or via YouTube, etc.

One suggestion is to break the meeting down into smaller self-help groups; this could be a Canon user-group for example, or maybe a group for those regularly using Bridge cameras?

Also, the busy nature of last Wednesday’s meeting meant we did not run our #spooky print challenge – so we’ll do that. Bring in your 6×4, 7×5 print that best fits the theme, and we’ll jointly pick a ‘winner’.

Advance Notice. Wednesday 24 November 2021 – We are holding a joint meeting with the Young Farmers Club in Burton Pidsea for another fun photography session. Takes place at The Memorial Hall in the village. Get there at 7pm for the set up ready for a 7.30pm start.

Halloween Night with Hedon Viewfinders Photography Club

Halloween is traditionally fun at Hedon Viewfinders! But lots pf photography skills to master too!

Wednesday’s ‘Halloween’ Meeting.

Wed 27 October at Haven Arms, Havenside Hedon, HU12 8HH at 7pm.

Expect the ‘reveal’ of those Club Members’ contributing to Birmingham’s Night of the Dead. Expect some shadow photography, light painting, smoke and fog, and an altogether spooky atmosphere!

Bring your spooky props, do join in by wearing a spooky fancy dress if you wish – and of course, it would be horrific if you forgot your camera! Tripods will be useful too!

AND…. we’ll run another small prints competition – on the theme of SPOOKY. Bring a small 6×4 or 7×5 print and the best one to meet the theme, decided by popular vote at the meeting, will win an appropriate prize!

All Welcome. Spread the word about one of our most popular photography nights of the year!

Drinks photography… but with a creative twist!

DRINKS PHOTOGRAPHY NIGHT – but with a creative twist! Building on the tabletop work we’ve done in the last few weeks then the idea developed at our last meeting of doing a product photography shoot

Building on the tabletop work we’ve done in the last few weeks then the idea developed at our last meeting of doing a product photography shoot on Wednesday 15 September 2021 around DRINKS (glasses, bottles, cocktails, branded products, etc).

But we want to look at composing shots with an extra element – a creative twist. Not just the subject but can we create something eye-catchingly different? For Example, not just a bottle perhaps, but how might we involve water, shadows, bokeh, etc? Thinking caps on folks!

Bring your own imagination and props, but we will have some arranged.

Haven Arms, Hedon, 7pm on Wednesday 15 September 2021. All Welcome. Free, fun and friendly!

Oil and water photography

IT’S AN OLD FAVOURITE at the Club on Wednesday 8 September 7pm at the Haven Arms; we will be doing Oil and Water Photography!

IT’S AN OLD FAVOURITE at the Club on Wednesday 8 September 2021 7pm at the Haven Arms; we will be doing Oil and Water Photography!

You don’t need much. A camera. A tripod. A DSLR or mirrorless camera with a macro lens is useful (or extension tubes for your kit lens) but you can always crop your photos with other lenses or other types of camera.

You need a small amount of cooking oil to use. You’ll need a clear, clean glass container to put your oil and water in – and some way to hold your container securely in the air so that you can place colourful paper, cloth, items, etc under the container. You need to light those items using a flash, continuous lighting, or a powerful torch.

You fill your container with water. Add the oil. Then you’re ready to start shooting.

Good fun. And no two setups are really alike.

Google Oil and Water Photography for lots of tips and ideas!

Low light photography and indoor light painting.

This week’s meeting will concentrate on low-light photography and indoor light painting.

By moving the light, or by moving the camera, the aim will be to produce some creative images. We’ll be working in low light conditions so bring your tripods (we’ll have some to lend) and torches to see what you are doing.

We’ll discuss your camera settings so everyone can get the most out of this session.
