THE DEADLINE for submissions to our ONLINE EXHIBITION is this Saturday, 7 November – please do not leave it until the last minute!
The Hedon Open Photography Exhibition is a marvellous opportunity for photographers to showcase their work, and particularly during the current ‘lockdown’ proposals will provide a real focus of attention for the club. Your support and images are needed! Full details here.
Weekly Challenges. With the success of our Daily Tasks during the last lockdown to guide us, Hedon Viewfinders will aim to provide a series of challenges for members to tackle during the current restrictions that prevent us from meeting.
At 7pm on Wed 4 November, following an introductory post on our Facebook Group Page at 7pm, then members are invited to post one new photo (not an old one) inspired by – and to match – one of the following themes:
- Toy Town
- Little & Large
You can enter one photo to each theme, but you might just want to concentrate on one theme! Post after the 7pm introductory post on Wednesday. You have got between now and then to plan and shoot your photo(s).
For those of you not on Facebook, then please submit your entries by email to email@example.com at least an hour before the 7pm deadline on Wednesday 4 November and we will post your entries for you!
Want some ideas and inspiration for your own photography during the new lockdown period? Visit one (or both!) of the following:

At our BOOKABLE workshops INSIDE at the Haven Arms, we have to continue to limit to less than six people. Participants will need to WEAR A FACE COVERING when not sat down. However, we are not restricted to Wednesdays but can use the facilities at other times too.
UPDATE ON MEET-UPS: Covid-19 restrictions.
At our BOOKABLE workshops INSIDE at the Haven Arms, we have to continue to limit to less than six people. Participants will need to WEAR A FACE COVERING when not sat down. However, we are not restricted to Wednesdays but can use the facilities at other times too. OUTDOORS activities are legally limited up to six people as well.
Within these restrictions, we can continue to gather for bookable activities. We are developing a list of what hopefully will be interesting workshops, some of which are available to book now.
On Wednesday 30 September the workshop will look at Light Sculpturing; using longer exposures, a darkened room and torches to paint ethereal light on subjects. Inspired by the work of US photographer Harold Ross.
Long Exposure workshops.
Night photography – groups up to six. Book in advance and participants will arrange the session between themselves to ensure convenient dates and shooting conditions.
Daylight long-exposures. Including use of Neutral Density filters. Groups of between 3 and 6 depending on subject and location. Currently looking to create a Waterfalls group.
Based on an event seen at The Photography Show, this experimental workshop will light a subject/model whilst throwing flour in the background with colourful lights illuminating the ‘explosion’ of flour. Messy – So will be doing it outside so weather dependent. This is taking place on Wed 7 October 2020 but will be repeated because of the interest.
Other news: A new YouTube channel started this year and is highly recommended. Of interest to photographers of all abilities, Photography Online publishes monthly on the last Sunday of the month. Do subscribe to the channel and watch the earlier monthly episodes from January.
We are the only Hedon-based photographic club. It’s free to join in and take part, and the club prides itself on its good reputation for its fun and friendly approach.
