Take a photowalk! Week 42 Challenge!

Hedon Viewfinders members often organise photowalks – this week it’s a challenge to do one!

WEEK 42 of the 52-Week Photography Challenge
TAKE A PHOTOWALK

This might seem an obvious one for photography club members, but for those who normally shoot alone, then an organised photowalk can be a rewarding experience. It’s also a great idea for those stuck in a creative rut and seeking inspiration.

Walking out with other photographers, rather than non-photographers, gives you the chance to take more time taking your photos. You can afford to be geeky trying out different ideas, approaches and new equipment. You can enjoy taking a wide range of photos from people, to architecture and the natural world depending on where your walk is.

Your walk could be anywhere: You might organise your own and invite other photographers to join you on a walk just minutes away from where you live. You might join a walk in a new place to you; a village, town, or city perhaps.
A trip to a woodland location or seaside venue can be very rewarding for your photography when in the company of other enthusiastic photographers.

A photowalk can act as its own network with opportunities to discuss photography with others sharing the same interest. The spin-offs from a photowalk can be good too; make an agreement to keep in touch with your walking friends and share your photos on social media.
Your challenge this week: Organise or take part in a photowalk!

IT HAS BEEN over a year since the Club met in ‘normal’ circumstances. However, with the roll-out of the vaccines and the Government’s easing of lockdown restrictions, we can now look at holding some activities once again.

Albeit restricted to six members at a time, we do hope to start ‘meeting’ once again for photography activities. Initially, these will be outdoors although from *April 12 it may be possible to restart indoor club activities again (6-members-at-a-time socially-distanced workshops).

The Government’s roadmap out of lockdown and other advice and guidance is published at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-spring-2021/covid-19-response-spring-2021-summary

To begin our journey back to active photography, we are holding a Lens Ball photography walk early evening on Thursday 1 April in the Hedon area. If you would like to attend then you need to book via viewfinders-ttl@gmx.co.uk and we’ll send further details.

Six places available only, but do get in touch anyway, and we can assess what demand there is for such activities.

Note: If you don’t have a Lens Ball, I have a spare that I can clean and sanitise for someone to use? Let me know, please. – Ray Duffill.

Weather permitting, it is proposed to hold a photo walk tour of Hull City Centre taking in well-known city locations. Meet 7:00pm outside the Hull interchange. Tripods will be useful if not essential on the night.

We will plan an alternative event back at the Haven Arms in Hedon for those who don’t/can’t walk if there is enough interest in this,  please let Ray know. This will be an event for us all if it rains heavily on the night and we have to cancel the photo walk.

Wednesday’s activity is part of a regular weekly programme of activities that will now be organised from or at our base at the Haven Arms, Havenside, Hedon. We will be primarily using the outside area of the pub for activities but have the option to gather indoors during inclement weather – and of course, we can benefit from refreshments at the pub!
