Weekly tasks game / constructive critique session

New weekly Tasks Photography Game and our next meeting is a constructive critique session.

New weekly photography game:

A NEW weekly game is going to start via our Meetings on Wednesdays and our Facebook Group Viewfinders – Through the Lens (Members). We invite you to join in! It will run from Wednesday to Wednesday.

Organised by Glenn, you will pick a task out of a bag at each meeting, and you then have a week to complete the task. Your best effort goes into a folder on the Facebook Group and you can only have one image.

If you cannot make the meeting, you can contact Glenn and he’ll pick a task out of the bag for you. You can use your own imagination, and you can access the web for ideas. The resulting image must be your own new work though, and not stock photos.

weekly tasks game
An example of a task is ‘Haberdashery’ to which Glenn responded with Adidas Man

Everyone should visit the relevant album on the Facebook Group and score the images as they feel fit. That gives us a leader board, which, should alter each week depending on voters.

The voting scores you can give on each image, are:

  • A like 👍🏻= 1 point
  • A love it ❤️= 2 points
  • A Wow 😲= 3 points

Voters can vote up to 7pm each Wednesday night. After that, the voting stops and restarts for the following week.

A Leader Board will be put up the next day so members can see how they are doing.

At the Hedon Viewfinders Christmas Party, there will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes awarded!

If members reading this are not on Facebook, then you will still be able to play. Contact Glenn Stallard for information on email: glenn.stallard@gmx.co.uk and he’ll arrange to pick your task for you.

We will feature regular updates here on the website on the images posted and the Leader Board!

MEETING Wednesday 1st June 2022 – Constructive criticism session

You are invited to come along to the meeting at the Haven Arms at 7pm and bring five images on a memory stick with you (or email them to us in advance). Hand them in at the beginning of the meeting. Your images should be from recent Hedon Viewfinders meetings or the weekly challenges.

We will show the images on the big screen anonymously and invite members to give their views on the images; what they like about them, and how they might be improved. Constructive criticism should be a positive experience leading to the taking of better photos and better post-editing.

If you prefer to email your images in advance then please mark the email subject ‘Constructive Criticism’ and send them to viewfinders-ttl@gmx.co.uk

Subjects of the images you bring should be based on your shared experiences with other club members and the 52-Week Photography Challenge.

Examples of the images you might bring from recent meet-ups could be – Water drops, Flying, Panning, Triptych, Bluebells Wood, Black & White, The 5-prop challenge night, etc, (see previous meeting subjects on this website).

“What’s in your camera bag?” / Constructive Critique – Wed 15 May 2019

Our meeting on Wed 15 May will appeal to the curious! What kind of camera or image making device do people use? Which camera? And which lenses are their favourite? What gadgets and accessories? What flash, filters and fittings?

Wednesday 15 May 2019, Haven Arms, Havenside, HU12 8HH at 7pm

Our meeting on Wed 15 May will appeal to the curious! What kind of camera or image making device do people use? Which camera? And which lenses are their favourite? What gadgets and accessories? What flash, filters and fittings?

We are asking people to bring along your kit and camera bags and show us what you are ‘armed’ with when you go taking photos. If you are ‘self-contained’ with a mobile phone or compact, bring those along too.

You’ll be surprised how many people have the same equipment and sharing knowledge of what is available can really help us when seeking advice from each other on features, kit, accessories and apps. We’ll have a short break when people can meet up with others to ‘talk kit’ and ‘self-help’.

For the second part of the evening we are holding a constructive critique session and ask you to bring along one or two images that you would like to share with us so that we can discuss what we like about the photos, and how we think they might have been improved. Bring your photos along as prints (remember a protective cover for handling), or on a memory stick/flash drive. For those in the Facebook Group we’ll set up an album where you can post your images.

Tuesday 14 May 2019, Haven Arms, Havenside, HU12 8HH at 7pm

We have an extra session arranged on Tuesday for those interested in developing their editing skills. It’s a self-help group on using Layers, Blending Modes, and Masking in Photoshop. We’ll look at some examples on the big screen (using Elements) and those taking part can have a go themselves. You are welcome to bring along your own laptop.

As well as Photoshop and Elements, this should be useful for those that use Affinity Photo, Luminar and some other programs that use layers.

Do visit the web page and see what’s planned for the rest of the year.

Show & Tell, Constructive Critique and Winter Flowers!

HEDON Viewfinders next meets on WEDNESDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2019 at the Haven Arms but is also holding a Winter Flowers Photo Walk on SATURDAY 16 FEBRUARY at Sewerby Gardens. Hedon’s free and friendly group where learning about photography is fun!

Show & Tell and Constructive Criticism:

HEDON Viewfinders next meets on WEDNESDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2019 at the Haven Arms starting promptly at 7pm, and is a ‘Show & Tell’ and/or a Constructive Criticism session. You are invited to submit up to three images rather on memory stick/flash drive, or as prints. You may wish to simply show images you are proud of to us all, or you might opt to tell us what you like about them and how you achieved/created them. You can also opt to get some constructive criticism from other attendees about how they think the images may have been improved.

Those who have potential ideas for prints for our Exhibition on “Hedon” in April, May and June, might want to bring in smaller prints (new work, or at least taken in the last 12 months) and gauge a bit of opinion about them to see if it’s worthwhile getting them enlarged, mounted and framed.

Sewerby Gardens Winter flowers photography trip:

We are holding a trip to Sewerby Gardens for a Photo Walk on SATURDAY 16 FEBRUARY principally to experience and photograph the Winter flowers now in bloom! The 50 acre grounds can be explored for free and boast over 10,000 snowdrops and yellow Aconites and wild Cyclamen all in flower. We envisage meeting in the Sewerby Hall Visitor free car park at 11:00am (but keep an eye on this event page for updates). As well as the visit to Sewerby, there’s the options to explore Flamborough or Bridlington too to be decided by those attending.

All Welcome – you don’t have to be a ‘member’ to take part. There’s always enthusiastic photographers present to help with your camera settings and offer other advice should you need it.

Hedon Viewfinders will interest photographers of all levels; regardless of ability, whatever image making device kit or equipment you own. Novices particularly encouraged. Hedon’s free and friendly group where learning about photography is fun!
