“Flowers are the Stars!” Hedon Viewfinders Club News

Everyone is welcome at Hedon Viewfinders meetings, which will look at Flower Photography on Wednesday 30 March

On Wednesday 30 March, 7pm at the Haven Arms the session is on flower photography – and building on what we learned in recent meetings (please send your images in to publish on the website) the aim will be to “Make the Flower the Star!”.

Members are encouraged to bring their own flowers in, but we’ll have some special ‘candidates’ for stardom available. We’ll approach flower photography in the same way as studio portraits with attention to lighting and backgrounds. We’ll also look at some other techniques for creating different photographic effects.

Our Week 11 TREES challenge resulted in this shot of a well-known scene at Sunk Island taken by Keith Maddon. And to the same challenge, Malcolm Seville responded with his image. And in response to the Week 12 Challenge ‘New to You’, Ray Duffill said that he had never light painted a boat before… until our last meeting that is!

#Time Photos

Thank you to those taking time to enter #Time photos. We have a look at the entries here…

Thank you to those taking the time to enter #Time photos.

We asked you to make an image that depicts/associates with a saying, phrase or idiom about TIME….?

On the entries – I like ‘Time for Tea’ by Dave Hook with its jet black background focussing attention on the subjects. I like both ‘Time is Money’ entries; Janet Bucknall’s made me laugh out loud with its pound coins as numbers and rolled-up notes as hands and must win the prize for creative thinking (if we had one!). The other ‘Time is Money’ by Steve Denniss is a lovely composition with the shallow depth of field just hinting at the ‘money’ part of the theme.

But my favourite and my declared winner is “Killin’ Time” by Gareth Hughes. Great composition and the red ‘blood’ of the clock and the shadow adding to the drama of the image. Well done, Gareth.

The images:

Again many thanks to all those taking part. I hope members are following along with the Photography Challenge 2021 and considering entering some images.
