Club News – Choose a topic and Bridlington Weekend!

CHOOSE a topic for a Club Talk – Mike Covell is back speaking at Hedon Viewfinders!

MIKE COVELL, historian, tour guide and expert on the darker side of local history, last spoke to Hedon Viewfinders in October 2019 on the grizzly murder of local girl Mary Jane Langley in Preston in 1891. It was a very different night for the photography club which appealed to and attracted a far wider audience. Prior to that, Mike has also hosted an amazing photo walk around Hull City Centre for Viewfinders.

Well, he’s back! And we have a choice of three subjects to choose from for his topic at a future meeting.

  1. Witchcraft in Yorkshire
  2. East Yorkshire Defences in World Wars 1 and 2
  3. East Yorkshire Ghosts

Each subject has an interest factor for photographers with photography being one of the documentary mediums used to report and record the subject matter. But again each subject has the potential to attract a non-photographer audience too.

Do let us know in the comments which subject you would prefer – or take part in the poll on the Hedon Viewfinders Facebook group: Viewfinders – Through the Lens (Members).

Message to our friends from Hedon Viewfinders

AT THE last online Zoom Club Night, we gave a shout out to our friends we haven’t seen for a while. Hedon Viewfinders is not just a photography club, but a community of photographers. We’ve had over 200 different people attending our meetings over the last 4 years (more than that if you count the Paul Beriff meeting) and many of you have subscribed to these website updates.

At Viewfinders, we like to pride ourselves on being a friendly place for photographers to gather and make acquaintances. Friendships have been created that in many cases will last a lifetime. That includes keeping in touch with old friends.

We just want all our photographic extended family to know, that we are here for your photography and social engagement should you need us.

Remember, we are still meeting for photography meetings and also for social events via the wonders of modern technology. Our Quiz Team came in an amazing 10th place last night… okay, that’s not amazing, and there’s scope to improve… perhaps with your help!?

Kind Regards – and please do keep in touch during these difficult times.

If there are any questions about your camera, settings, features, kit, etc that you wish to ask, email those as well, at the end of the meeting we’ll go back into general chat and try to pair people up with those who can help.

Ambitiously, during the meeting, we’ll also be attempting to keep the Facebook Group page alive and updated with meeting news and views too, so we can feed those back and forth.

As a public community of photographers, we’re keen to look out for each other and help where we can. Do email us with any concerns or worries during these scary times.
