Halloween Night at Hedon Viewfinders – Wed 2 Nov 2022

Hedon Viewfinders popular Halloween Night at the Haven Arms….

IT’S BACK! With characters in fancy dress, dry ice, smoke, and other spooky effects, it’s sure to be one of our busiest nights at Hedon Viewfinders!

It takes place at 7pm on Wednesday 2 November at the Haven Arms, so don’t put away those Halloween decorations from Monday (actual Halloween), but bring them along on Wednesday to add to the photographic fun!

With opportunities for portrait shots and capturing the spooky atmosphere, it will be photographic heaven for photographers….. in a Halloweenish style!

New to photography? This will be a great event to give your camera/phone a workout and even get some advice on using it!

All are welcome at this different kind of photography event. Come as a photographer, a participant in fancy dress, or a spectator.

Note: Flash photography will be used at this event.

And this week it’s a Halloween theme in our 52-Week Photography Challenge! Do join in and send your photos to us!

Some photos from our Abstract Night to add to the Members’ Gallery. Photos by Natalie and Keith.

Abstract photography consists of images created using photography materials and equipment that don’t have an immediate association with the physical world. Abstract photographers use perspective, movement, and light to transform the world we see into an unexpected, often unrecognisable image.

“Abstract photography is not representational. It might explore the texture or detail of everyday objects or make you think of something else…”

Hedon Viewfinders is Hedon’s own community photography club. It’s free to join. It’s free to take part in our activities. The club prides itself on its good reputation for its fun and friendly approach to studying and enjoying photography.

Meets Wednesdays every week 7pm at the Haven Arms, Havenside, Hedon HU12 8HH. But check our key dates to see if we’re there or out and about on any particular week.

Subscribe to get the news from the club every time we update this website.

Halloween Week 43 – Interpret how you wish!

Whether from your research or from your activities this week, your Week 43 images should be inspired by Halloween.

IT’S HALLOWEEN WEEK – so your images this week should capture the fun or horror of it all!

If you are marking the occasion by events then your Halloween Week images will most likely draw inspiration from those. But you might also like to draw inspiration from your research into Halloween. Things you might like to consider are:

  • Jack o’lantern – what’s this all about? Who was Jack? What’s it got to do with Pumpkins?
  • What is Samhain? How might this influence the type of photos you’ll take?
  • Day of the DeadDia de los Muertos originated in Mexico but is an inspiration for artists (and photographers) around the world.
  • Trick or Treat? Where did this tradition come from?
  • Witches – Where did the image of the pointy black hat, broomstick and black cat come from?
  • Captain Kirk – What does the Star Trek captain have to do with Halloween?
  • Coulrophobia – Previously associated with comedy and fun, why has the clown now become a Halloween figure?

Whether from your research or from your activities this week, your Week 43 images should be inspired by Halloween.

As ever, these challenges are to encourage new photography, so we ask you not to simply re-use your existing stock (unless necessary for the particular challenge).

And do please send in your images associated with these challenges – or your other activities as a Club Member. We will publish them on these pages.
