A reminder of our RESERVED subjects for those of you who haven’t played. We award more points. And a League Table update!
Photography Challenge 2021 update.
Firstly we remind those that haven’t played yet, that we have RESERVED a few subjects specifically for you to have a go at:
2. A somersault.
4. A belly laugh
6. Shoelaces tied together
15. A wonderful surprise
24. Hanging laundry
Use your imagination to create an image that fits the theme. You can send an entry to us at email email@example.com – at the very least your photo will automatically enter you into the £10 draw! Don’t wait too long though, we will open them up to everyone if not taken up soon.
More points have been awarded in the following LOCKED categories.
33. A blur.
The winner of two points for a photo that includes a couple of Club stars is GLENN STALLARD.
And the winner of two points is GARETH HUGHES.
78 A long time.
Although Mike’s skeleton really made me chuckle, the winner of two points is DAVE HOOK with his long time with the NHS.
82. A hole in the ground.
The two points are awarded to MIKE REDHEAD for his Hole of Horcum landscape.
83. Power lines.
A very good selection of photos and difficult to judge. But for composition and symmetry, the two points go to MIKE REDHEAD.
84 Flock of birds.
The winner of two points for the photo that I think gives a sense of scale to a flock of birds is MAGGIE WINGFIELD.
104 A hiding place.
The winner of the two points could have been Jim Uney for his cheeky hidden plaice (!), but instead, we opted for the child who has found a peculiar hiding place by GARETH HUGHES.
The current League Table (as of 7am on 7 March 21):
League Table 7am 7 March 21.
Remember: We’ll only accept one photo from each person to each subject. After we’ve received 5 photos to a particular subject, then that subject will be closed for entries.
RESERVED subjects are for those new to the game or with 5 points or less. We encourage you to send in your entries to email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In whatever way you send us your images for the challenge, use the hashtag so that we can find them easier:
In response to a gift from the Hedon Mayor of a project book 104 things to photograph, a new Photography Challenge 2021 has been launched.
The challenge to be conducted throughout the year will seek to inspire members to make images in response to subjects suggested by the book. The first five people responding to each subject will score a point each just for entering. And one photograph out of the five will be declared ‘winner’ and receive a further 2 points.
At the end of the year, the photographer with the highest points in a League Table will win £25.
All the information to start taking part is at the new web page:
THE DEADLINE for submissions to our ONLINE EXHIBITION is this Saturday, 7 November – please do not leave it until the last minute!
The Hedon Open Photography Exhibition is a marvellous opportunity for photographers to showcase their work, and particularly during the current ‘lockdown’ proposals will provide a real focus of attention for the club. Your support and images are needed! Full details here.
Weekly Challenges. With the success of our Daily Tasks during the last lockdown to guide us, Hedon Viewfinders will aim to provide a series of challenges for members to tackle during the current restrictions that prevent us from meeting.
At 7pm on Wed 4 November, following an introductory post on our Facebook Group Page at 7pm, then members are invited to post one new photo (not an old one) inspired by – and to match – one of the following themes:
Little & Large
You can enter one photo to each theme, but you might just want to concentrate on one theme! Post after the 7pm introductory post on Wednesday. You have got between now and then to plan and shoot your photo(s).
For those of you not on Facebook, then please submit your entries by email to email@example.com at least an hour before the 7pm deadline on Wednesday 4 November and we will post your entries for you!

Want to register for the REFLECTIONS workshop on Wed 16 September? It’s free and aimed to be a learning or just fun photography experience. Complete the online form…
For Wednesday 16 September 2020 (our first GROUP OF SIX workshop with only six people booked in advance and taking part), the workshop challenge night is on the theme of REFLECTIONS. The twig drops photography is something the Club did last year, but for Wednesday, we hope to try some new ideas incorporating mirrors/reflective surfaces; things that we’ve not done before.
We need six people to register interest for Wednesday’s reflections challenge group workshop (complete online form below). If there’s more than six interested we can simply repeat the workshop at a later date and on a different night to a Wednesday if participants wish.
And as mentioned previously, we are open to any ideas from members about the theme, genre, etc. for club nights/activities/workshops whilst working in a socially-distanced way under the rule of 6. Contact us with your ideas.
It is also proposed setting up a Home and Tabletop Challenge Group from Wednesday’s meeting. This same group of six people, or another group of six formed from the membership, will seek to arrange and tackle photography projects of an interesting, experimental or learning nature – perhaps acquiring skills or trying out ideas you’ve seen demonstrated in the magazines or online. It will aim to encourage members to learn and try new things to improve their photography.
This new challenge group could set challenge competitions for the wider membership to take part in online on our Facebook and Flickr groups!?

This is a list of twenty-four ideas from which you can pick one – or more – to give yourself a personal photographic challenge. We have started this on Facebook, the object for members is to try something new. The list is based on Photo Tips cards.
Jenny Young tackled several of the challenges and we are delighted to publish her top ten as a slideshow here! Her close-up of an eye is our featured photo here.
Hedon Viewfinders has utilised the personal challenge approach to photography a few times over the last few years. So, if you are still searching for inspiration on what to shoot, then check out our 52 Week Photo Challenge and our 52 Weekly Photography Ideas (next week, is week 30). Of course during Lockdown in 2020 members tackled 50 daily tasks which proved very popular.
If you want to share your photo challenge results with other members, then send them to us by email firstname.lastname@example.org, please.
