AT OUR NEXT Hedon Viewfinders meeting we will look at using colour in photography – but purposefully so.
Colour theory is the science and art of using colour. It explains how people perceive colour and the effects of how colours mix, complement or
contrast with each other. Colour in our photos can also evoke different emotions which can help communicate a message.
Our Creative Photography 52 subject on Thursday is “Contrasting Colours” and Wednesday’s meeting is an opportunity to consider ideas for meeting that theme.
A simple idea is to take one colour and use that as a starting point for making photographs. What colours match our colour? Which stand out in stark contrast to it? By completing a one-colour challenge i.e. concentrating on that colour all week, you will build up an idea of what are complementary and contrasting colours.
For this meeting bring in some main one-colour props or items, but also bring in some secondary items of a different colour that might complement/contrast the other.
