Old images – rescued and brought back to life!

Hedon Viewfinders has a treat at its club meeting on Wednesday 22 June 2022.

The presentation is by club member Dave Prideaux. Dave collects, restores and digitises old large format negatives, glass negatives and glass lantern slides. It is something he has been doing since the 1980s so he has a vast collection of images of places and people that now only survive in memory and in such restored images.

Dave last spoke to the club in November 2019 and it was a fascinating night with his images sparking much curiosity and many questions. Whilst Dave has researched many of the images he has rescued, there are still many depicting unknown scenes, locations and dates. Perhaps Viewfinders can play the role of photo detectives at the meeting and help identify and explain some of the images?

Glenn Stallard from the club, says: “I have seen Dave’s presentations many times before and am looking forward to his latest; listening to what he has to say, and to see what his chosen selection is, from the thousands of images he has!”

Dave is also a former pilot flying for leisure. His aerial shots, particularly of the local area, are something very different from those taken by drone pilots who fly at much lower altitudes. Dave has agreed to present a selection of his aerial shots too.
